FAQ

What is an EscapeSF Real-Time Room Escape Game?

A room escape game is like a computer game, but everything is real. Everything has meaning. You find clues and solve puzzles to discover the room’s secrets and escape.

Each game has a goal: you may have to return a stolen painting, escape from Alcatraz, or beat a mafia clan. You need to figure out where to begin, sort out the logic of the puzzles and clues, find the right items, use them correctly, and all within the time limit of one hour.

Why choose EscapeSF?

Maybe you tried playing other real-life room escape games, but we built something more intense, with a heavy focus on design and setting to immerse you into the story and behind the scenes high-tech tricks to make some "magic" happen.

Who can play?

Our rooms are designed for a small group of 2+ people. It’s fun for friends, a special date, or as a team-building event.

Children ages 8 to 17 must* be accompanied by at least 1 adult and children under the age of 8 are not permitted to attend.

Age restrictions for each game:

  • 8 Years and Up for Escape from Antique Room
  • 10 Years and Up for the Space Bus*
  • 12 Years and Up for Escape from Alcatraz
  • 14 Years and Up for Escape from Blind Tiger Bar

* Space Bus can be played without adult present within the game environment.

Please download and bring a signed copy of the release form.

How much time is required?

The games are 60 minutes, but we ask you to allocate 1.5 hours which include the introduction and the optional solution walk-through. Please arrive 15 minutes before the game starts. The exit door will be locked for 60 minutes and if you succeed, the doors open and you win the game. If you do not finish in time–the game is over (but we will still let you out).

What is the number of players per team?

Alcatraz, Antique Room, and Blind Tiger have been designed for teams of 2 to 6 players. This is based on the number of clues and obstacles that need to be solved within 60 minutes. No, we can’t “squeeze” in the 7th person

Space Bus can accommodate up to 8 adults or 9 kids.

Do I need anything special? Is it safe?

You do not need to be Superman to win this game; you do need to explore, discover, analyze, brainstorm and think outside the box. Here is a link to some helpful Tips & Tricks to Win Escape Room Games.

We take the matter of safety very seriously. All of the equipment is low voltage, all of the cabinets are bolted down, and all of the games have an ‘emergency exit’ button on the exit door.

Can I take my phone with me into the game environment?

Due to the nature of the room escape games, no recordings can be taken inside the game rooms. That includes (without limitation) the use of mobile phones, recording devices (video and/or audio) and cameras. The use of such a device in the room is not permitted at any time. We expect visitors not to disclose any details of the game directly or indirectly to the public. Let's not spoil the game for other guests.

Is it scary?

No. There is nothing that is designed to scare you or anyone to jump out at you.

How difficult are the games?

The games are hard, but not impossible.

We tried to keep the same level of difficulty for our games. However, some teams find certain games easier than others. It depends on the team and their ability to communicate, work together, and delegate.

An estimate of difficulty levels:

Alcatraz – 6.5 out of 10

Antique Room – 7 out of 10

Blind Tiger – 8 out of 10

Space Bus – 7.5 out of 10 (with a team of 6)

Can I get a refund once purchased? Can I exchange my game for a different timeslot?

No. Just like a sporting event, concert, or theater ticket, all sales are final. Rescheduling fee is $28 per game. Rescheduling within 48 hours of the scheduled event is not permitted.

Can I give my game away or sell it?

Yes. The games are transferable, however, selling reservations for greater than face value may be illegal in your area.

Is EscapeSF hiring?

Yes. We are looking for part-time Game Masters. Must be 18+ and be available to work evenings and weekends.
